JOSHUA - Lesson 4: Know God & know about the enemy

Joshua 2:1-24

One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple." Psalm 27:4

I too, my Lord, long to walk with you all the days of my life. My heart cries out with David's: "Thy face, O Lord, do I seek. Hide not Thy face from me."  For you are my strength, my peace, my joy and my Shepherd. With you I can face the dreaded foes that would weaken my faith and dull my vision of all the amazing riches of your heavenly kingdom.

 

1. Read Joshua 2:1-21. Why were the spies sent into the land?


2. What did they discover?

 

 

3. How did God lead the two spies?  Where did they find shelter? 

 

 

4. In what ways did Rahab express faith? (Heb 11:24-31)  How did she manifest --

5. Read Matthew 1:1-5 and James 2:25. How did God reward Rahab's trust?

 

 

6. Read Exodus 23:20-22 and 27.  What had God promised His people through Moses forty years earlier?

 

 

7. Compare these promises with Joshua 2. In what ways does this chapter show the fulfillment of God's promises in Exodus?


 

8. How does God's care and faithfulness encourage you in your circumstances today?

 

 

9. Read Joshua 2:9-24.  What did the Canaanite people in the land know about God? (Relate this knowledge to the above prophecy in Exodus 23.)

 

 

10. Explain the difference between knowing God (personally) and knowing about God?


 

11. Mere knowledge about God -- without a relationship with Him -- would tend to cause the same reaction we see in the people of Jericho.  Why did they react the way they did?


12. Consider what is happening in our world today. Do people who know about God experience the same fear?      Why or why not?

 

 

13. Which aspects or attributes of God's character do most people today prefer to ignore?  Why is this important?

 

 

14. What did you learn from Joshua 1 and 2 that encourages you to live in such a way that others can gain true knowledge of God and  -- and desire to know Him personally?


15. Read Romans 8:31. When we live in covenant-relationship with God, our enemies become His enemies. He goes before us, and leads us in His triumph! If God is for you, it matters little who is against you, for He makes you "more than conqueror" in Christ!

     Why, if the victory is already yours, must we still "search the land" to see the threats and challenges ahead?  See -

16. Read Galatians 2:20. What does this verse show you about -

     1. your relationship with Jesus

 

     2. God's promised victory
