Images of the Cross in God's Creation

Beneath the cross of Jesus
I fain would take my stand,
The shadow of a mighty rock
within a weary land;
A home within the wilderness,
a rest upon the way,
From the burning of the noontide heat,
and the burden of the day.

A tall Eucalyptus!

"God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,

by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."  Galatians 6:14

See the little hummingbird in her nest to the right of the cross. (We actually  didn't notice the cross until we downloaded and enlarged this small part of the picture. God is so good!)

Upon that cross of Jesus

Mine eye at times can see

The very dying form of One

Who suffered there for me;

And from my stricken heart with tears

Two wonders I confess;

The wonders of redeeming love

And my unworthiness.

It's so exciting to find reminders  of God's  love in unexpected places!

I take, O cross, thy shadow

For my abiding place;

I ask no other sunshine

Than the sunshine of His face;

Content to let the world go by

To know no gain or loss,

My sinful self my only shame,

My glory all the cross.

We added the crossbar (a broken birch branch) to our birch tree covered with the wisteria vine:

After asking God to show me fresh images of the cross in our neighborhood, I took the following pictures.  I thought you might still enjoy the pictures with us.

The last three pictures  show two old pieces of driftwood placed

in different settings:

      Many years ago, Andy, I and our three young sons rented a car and drove south through Europe. We didn't meet many people who knew our wonderful God, and few showed any interest in hearing about Him. In fact, it seemed that the Creator was hardly welcome -- even in Norway, my own beautiful native country.

     We saw stately churches with their crosses raised on lofty spires, but they often seemed more like monuments to a cultural adaptation of Christianity than signs of love for the true gospel.

     One day, God showed us some branches that formed a clear image of the cross, and my heart was filled with thanks. During the rest of the trip, we kept looking for the cross, and He would show it to us in the most surprising places. It always brought  joy  -- as if we were sharing with Him a wonderful secret: the secret of constant and eternal fellowship with our Shepherd and King -- through the cross.

     One of the most special crosses was "happened to be" right in front of this spectacular waterfall in Switzerland:  The cross and the waterfall
